I am originally from Bogotá, Colombia, and currently based in New Jersey, United States. I am graduating from the National University of Colombia with over 10 years of experience as a Nutritionist Dietitian Registered in Colombia. During this time, I have acquired extensive clinical expertise while advocating for healthy lifestyle habits. My passion lies in aiding individuals and communities, coupled with a genuine love for cooking up tasty dishes and enjoying outdoor activities.

At the beginning of my career, I dedicated myself to community nutrition, conducting nutritional assessments and providing education, as well as meals with complete nutrition to children on a limited budget in vulnerable communities.

Clinical practice: During my clinical practice in high-complexity hospitals, I had the opportunity to emphasize the crucial role of the nutrition professional in the patient’s nutritional care process. I worked with both pediatric and adult patients, addressing various disease conditions. This experience allowed me to develop skills that enabled me to function effectively within the hospital context while reaffirming ethical values.

Community : During my public health practice, I had the opportunity to participate in food security and nutritional programs sponsored by the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, specifically in the Rafael Uribe Uribe locality. I collaborated across disciplines to address issues related to iron deficiency and childhood malnutrition.

Food Service: Throughout my tenure, I actively engaged in various critical aspects of food service management. Specifically, I played a pivotal role in the contracting of outsourced food services. I participated in the process of intervention for contracting external food services. This involved evaluating potential vendors, skillfully negotiating contracts, and meticulously ensuring compliance with quality standards. My commitment to excellence in food service allowed me to contribute effectively to the overall operational success.

During my time in high-complexity clinics, I had the honor of contributing to patients’ well-being through comprehensive nutritional care. This was supported by my experience as an Ad Honorem professor awarded by the National University of Colombia at the Mederi University Hospital. Additionally, I was part of the adult intensive care team and an active member of the nutritional support group. Furthermore, I played an active role in the neonatal care unit and lactation room, providing nutritional support to both newborns and breastfeeding mothers.

My commitment was always to be a bridge between science and practice, guiding my patients toward a healthier life through proper nutrition.

Community...

Participation in the New Women New Yorkers (NWNY) programs: NWNY offers job development and support programs, providing the necessary tools for women to obtain meaningful jobs or advance their education in New York City. In addition, it provides a safe and inclusive space where women can build community, connect, and share their unique stories.

I participated in the LEAD WINTER 2024 program where I learned to overcome the barriers that women face in their career paths, focusing on practicing English, acquiring job skills, and cultural understanding. This not only gave me confidence and essential skills to achieve professional goals, but it also helped me to meet a solid professional network and a supportive community of capable and wonderful women.
